Survive the crash and prepare the raft

Mayday's documented demo story runs from the plane crash to returning the Power Crystal to the Totem of Power. Along the way, you build basic survival equipment, reach iron crafting, obtain the Blade of the Hidden Root, and defeat the graveyard's Master of Shadows. This walkthrough follows that playable demo route and ends at its explicit completion screen.

After the crash, open your diary with Q in the documented PC controls and follow its first survival goals. Build the workbench, make basic gathering tools, set up the trap objective, and work toward the raft. Use your displayed bindings if you have changed them.

Prepare food before exploring. For cooking, the developer's instructions are to open the campfire menu with E, then right-click a usable container while the menu is open. Coconut shells provide an early cooking option; an iron pot is not a prerequisite for every first meal.

In demo player experience, food goes into the raft's food slot to support exploration, while discovered islands can be revisited without another exploration charge. Use that system to continue beyond the starting island without assuming that every distant destination is immediately affordable or available.

Reach the stone heads and prepare for the story fight

On the next island, continue the encounter with the stone heads. Their dialogue warns that you need stronger equipment and points toward nearby iron-rich rocks. This is where the documented route opens the Furnace and Forge stage.

Prepare the metalworking chain before pushing ahead:

  1. Collect iron ore from the relevant rocks with a pickaxe.
  2. Build the Furnace and process the ingredients for your next recipes.
  3. Make iron ingots; the older recorded demo uses coal made from wood for this step.
  4. Build the Forge and make the equipment needed for the coming fight.
  5. Continue the active story objective when you are prepared.

The official Mayday update history records the Forge's October 23 iron-cost reduction from five ingots to three. Use that updated iron number and check the remaining ingredients in your recipe, rather than copying the complete material list from an older video.

A developer clarification says the early forced story fight has no countdown, so you can take time to craft and prepare. After the encounter, let the character's kneeling sequence and the next Entity dialogue finish. The developer notes that skipping that sequence with Esc could make players miss the follow-up in the older demo flow.

Obtain the swamp flowers and special blade

The next explanation introduces the island's stolen crystals and three totems: Power, Wisdom, and Spirit. Returning the crystals is the broader story goal, but the documented demo route proceeds toward Power first.

The stone heads send you to the nearby swamps for the materials needed to obtain the Blade of the Hidden Root. Two golems guard the means to acquire the Blood Flower and Mist Flower. Speak to them and follow their requests; the recorded player session gathers fish and venison during this stage.

Check the exact item names and quantities in your diary before collecting a large batch. The player explicitly uses the quest log to clarify the fish requirement, making it a better guide than guessing that every fish size will satisfy the request.

Return with the required flowers and continue the stone-head objective. The player then uses the special rock associated with the blade step. Follow that interaction rather than assuming the ordinary metalworking Forge completes every part of this story weapon's creation.

Once you have the blade, the dialogue explains that it can harm both Master of Shadows and the totem guardian. Keep it ready for the next two combat stages.

Defeat Master of Shadows and collect the Sacred Orb

The next obstacle is the barrier protecting the guardian's domain. The stone heads identify Master of Shadows in the ancient graveyard as the creature holding the energy orb that can break it.

Travel to the graveyard with the Blade of the Hidden Root and continue its encounter. In the documented player experience, the important battle correction is to hit the main boss rather than focus only on the minions. Deal with pressure so you can return your attacks to Master of Shadows instead of treating every lesser enemy as the main objective.

After victory, collect and inspect the rewards. The player reads Sacred Orb, the story item tied to opening the next route. A scroll connected to secret recipes and a legendary spear also appears in the reward narration.

Master of Shadows is separate from the Guardian of Power. The graveyard fight supplies the key for the next stage; it does not itself return the Power Crystal.

Face the Guardian of Power and return the crystal

Follow the objective through the guardian's barrier using the Orb progression. In the recorded demo, approaching the crystal in the statue and trying to take it leads into the Guardian of Power encounter.

This is the later statue-and-hands fight. The player narrates attacking the head here; that detail belongs to this encounter, rather than the previous graveyard boss. Prepare recovery supplies beforehand: the recorded player's plan to cook during this Power fight fails, so do not make mid-fight campfire cooking the basis of your preparation.

The special blade is not a permanently unbreakable weapon. Developer Daniel Abdelnur explains in the Steam feedback discussion that its protected durability lasts only until the first boss, after which it can wear out, break, and be made again.

After defeating the Guardian of Power, take the crystal to the Totem of Power and approach it to return the crystal. That is the endpoint shown in the complete player session: the game displays its message thanking the player for completing the demo.

The dialogue's larger three-crystal objective remains broader than this demonstrated route. The demo completion screen does not establish that all three guardians have been defeated or that the character has completed a final escape from the island.

FAQ

How far does this main story walkthrough go?

It covers the documented demo from the crash through returning the Power Crystal, where the recorded session reaches an explicit demo completion screen.

Do I have to rush the early story fight?

The developer's clarification says that early forced encounter has no countdown. Use the preparation time to make equipment and food before continuing.

What unlocks the route to the Guardian of Power?

The dialogue directs you to obtain the energy orb from Master of Shadows in the ancient graveyard. The resulting Sacred Orb is the story key for the barrier progression.

Does returning the Power Crystal show the full ending?

It completes the documented demo route. That screen does not demonstrate the full game's final escape or completion of the other two crystal branches.
